Land Clearing

From overgrown to ready-to-build

Land clearing is the heavier cousin of forestry mulching. When you need trees taken down, stumps pulled, roots grubbed out and the debris dealt with so the ground is genuinely ready for construction or a new use, this is the service. We bring the excavator and the right attachments to take a lot from overgrown to clean and graded.

The owner plans the clearing around what comes next, whether that is a building pad, a driveway, a pasture or a clean property line, so the work sets up the next stage instead of creating more cleanup.

Done with the next step in mind

Clearing is rarely the whole project. It usually leads to site prep, a driveway, drainage or a pad. Because the owner runs those jobs too, the clearing is done with the finished result in mind, the right material saved or removed, the ground left at a workable grade, and the access protected.

We handle the debris responsibly and leave the site tidy. You should be able to look at the finished lot and immediately picture what you are putting on it.

Why Short

Done right, the first time.

The owner runs the machines himself, so the slope, the bedding and the compaction get checked by the person who will answer for them.

The standard

What to expect working with Short Excavating

The thing customers tell us they appreciate most is that there are no surprises. When you call about land clearing, you talk to the owner, not a salesperson reading off a script. He listens to what you are trying to accomplish, comes out and walks the site, and gives you a real number based on what he actually sees on the ground rather than a guess over the phone.

You will not see a rotating cast of crews on your property. The owner runs the equipment or works right beside it, so the person who walked the site and priced it is the same one making the cuts. Problems get caught while the ground is open and cheap to fix. When the work wraps up, the area is graded out and cleaned, ready for whatever comes next.

Whether your project is a quick job or a big one, residential or commercial, you get the same standard and the same straight conversation. If something comes up mid-job, you hear about it from the owner directly, with a plan, not a surprise on the invoice. That is how every land clearing job gets handled.

How a job goes

No surprises, start to finish.

01

You call the owner

Tell him what you are working on. You talk to the person who will actually run the machine.

02

We walk the site

The owner looks at the ground, access and drainage before quoting, so the number is real and the plan fits.

03

We do the work

Clean, careful work with the right equipment, checked as it goes in, not after the trucks leave.

04

Final grade, cleaned up

We leave the site graded, tidy and ready for what is next, and we stand behind the work.

No surprises

Get a straight answer on your land clearing project

A price given over the phone is a guess, and guesses on excavation tend to grow once the bucket hits dirt. The owner would rather come out first. He looks at what you need done, checks access and conditions, and then gives you a number he expects to hold. There is no pressure to sign once you have it.

It is also worth saying what we will not do: we will not talk you into work you do not need, and we will not cut the parts of land clearing that decide whether it lasts just to come in low. If a smaller fix solves your problem, the owner will tell you. That straightforwardness, paired with the careful hands-on work, is why so much of what we do comes from referrals and repeat customers around Fort Wayne and the surrounding counties.

Worth knowing

Why land clearing done right matters

Excavation is one of the few trades where the cheapest bid is almost never the best deal, and land clearing is a clear example. So much of the work is buried, graded or compacted that you cannot see whether it was done right until a season or two has passed. By then a corner cut to win the job on price has become your problem to pay for twice.

That is the whole reason Short Excavating is built around one accountable owner. He is on the controls, he checks the work as it goes in, and his name is on the company, so the parts that decide whether land clearing lasts are the parts he is most particular about. It is why our customers describe the work as meticulous and keep our number for the next job.

Straight answers

Questions, answered.

If yours isn’t here, just call the owner and ask.

What is the difference between land clearing and forestry mulching?

Forestry mulching grinds brush and small growth in place and leaves it as mulch. Land clearing is for heavier work, removing trees, pulling stumps and grubbing roots, with the debris hauled or processed and the ground graded. Many jobs use both.

Do you remove the stumps too?

Yes. Stump removal and root grubbing are part of clearing when you need the ground genuinely clear for building or grading. The owner will scope it on the site walk.

What happens to all the debris?

We deal with it responsibly, whether that means processing it on site or hauling it off, and leave the lot clean. We talk through the plan before we start so there are no surprises.

Can you clear in preparation for a build?

That is most of what we do. Because we also handle site prep, pads and driveways, we clear with the next stage in mind so the lot is truly ready.

How much does land clearing cost?

It comes down to acreage, how heavy the growth and tree cover are, stump work and debris handling. The owner walks the site and gives you a real number before any work begins.
